Western Science is seeking highly motivated Master’s and PhD students to join their research team in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. These positions will focus on developing advanced protective coatings using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) techniques.
The research aims to understand how a material’s microstructure influences its performance and durability, with the goal of creating novel anti-corrosion, hard coating, and hydrogen embrittlement-resistant materials. The project involves PVD film deposition and the characterization of these protective coatings using state-of-the-art equipment at the Surface Science Western (SSW) facility.
Successful candidates will have a completed or near-complete Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field. They should have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team, and an aptitude for hands-on work with PVD techniques and characterization tools.
Prior experience with film deposition, machine learning for materials design, or electrochemistry for coating performance evaluation would be considered an asset.
If interested, applicants should submit a CV, academic transcripts, and a motivation letter to amir.mirzaei@uwo.ca. Priority will be given to Canadian residents who can join the team in the near future.
